Darlyne Stewart was born in Victoria but spent much of her early childhood in England and Nova Scotia before returning to the west coast.

 

Her creative abilities first became evident at the age of seven.  She designed and decorated a dollhouse out of wooden orange crates with cloth curtains and padded furniture.  Over several years she designed and built three more original dollhouses.  She also created the dolls to live in these unique houses.

 

In her early thirties, Darlyne once again had the opportunity to pursue her artistic passion doing makeup for theatre in Victoria. After being offered freelance work with CBC on the island, she was offered a full time job with CBC in Vancouver.  That prompted her move to Vancouver, which opened up various job opportunities with other television stations. She then went on to be employed in the film industry in the areas of makeup and special effects. Her talents did not go unnoticed and she was offered an apprenticeship with Universal Studios in Los Angeles.

 

Instead, Darlyne chose to stay in Vancouver and create an interior decorating and design business, after taking both design and management courses at UBC and Langara College.  For many years her business clients in Vancouver, West Vancouver and Whistler benefited greatly from her creativity and visual abilities.

  

Looking towards semi-retirement, Darlyne decided to move back to Victoria to create an art studio/business. Her paintings often include applying various mediums to canvas to create an interesting 3D effect.  Her sculpting includes the creation of various birds, garden ornaments and the mythical Greenmen. They are made with a unique sculpting compound that can withstand any weather conditions.  Her Faefolk are created mainly for indoor decor.

With memberships in three different art organizations in Victoria, as well as various art shows and several loyal patrons, Darlyne became quite established in the island's art community.

 

After years of missing the mainland, she decided to return to Tsawwassen where she had fond memories with family and friends.  Darlyne is passionate about her visual art and focuses on creating one of a kind, unique art pieces that can bring enjoyment to their new owners. She is currently a contributing member in the South Delta Art Guild and sells her art through the South Delta Art Gallery's various shows, custom orders and online.
